2015 Oyster Reef Ecosystem Services Research Update

In order to quantify the ecosystem benefits provided by restored oyster reefs, the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO) initiated the Oyster Reef Ecosystem Services (ORES) project.

In September 2015, the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office released a document highlighting progress under way in research projects that focus on the ecosystem services provided by restored oyster reefs.

The 2015 Oyster Reef Ecosystem Services (ORES) Research Update includes details on:

  • NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office’s fish utilization field study in the Tred Avon and Little Choptank Rivers
  • NCBO-funded research in seven projects at academic institutions around the Chesapeake Bay watershed
  • Economic modeling of ecosystem and economic effects of oyster reefs.
